Are you out of work this summer?

PLEASE NOTE! The more carefully you have completed the application, the less additional information we will need to ask and the sooner the fund can process your application. This is particularly important during the summer, when the number of applications we receive increases due to lay-offs and suspensions of work.

If you are unemployed or laid off temporarily or your employment contract agrees on suspending work for the holidays, do as follows:

  1. Register as an unemployed jobseeker with the TE Office on your first day of unemployment at the latest.
  2. You will need your employment contract and payslips (palkkalaskelma) from the past six months or 26 weeks to meet the employment requirement. If you have worked on an hourly wage, ask your payroll officer for a report of weekly hours that lists your hours worked per each week. (The template for the weekly hours report can be found under the forms section ((viikkotuntiselvitys)). You can also ask the payroll officer for a wage certificate (palkkatodistus) for the past 26 weeks of work that meet the employment requirement. Holiday bonus, holiday compensation and any unpaid periods must be listed separately on the certificate. Please check if you need to send other attachments.

If possible, we use data from the Incomes Register. However, the necessary data cannot always be found in the Incomes Register.

  3. Send the first application at the earliest after two full calendar weeks (Monday to Sunday) if you are entirely without work and are not paid wages for part-time or gig work during the application period. The final day in the application must be a Sunday or the last day of the month.

Holiday compensation for full-time work lasting more than two weeks will affect the payment of the unemployment benefit. This means that if the person has unused holidays at the end of the employment relationship, the holiday compensation paid for these will postpone the start of the entitlement to earnings-related allowance.

  4. If you are receive pay for part-time or gig work during the application period, submit the application for the full calendar month.
  5. You can check Nettikassa to see when the fund has received your application. You will also see when your application is being processed. Applications cannot be rushed. We process applications in the order they arrive. After your application is taken up for processing, the case manager will ask you for any missing documents. See our website for processing times.
  6. After your first application has been processed, apply for the daily allowance in application periods of either four full calendar weeks (Monday to Sunday) or one calendar month.
